A judicial official was taken into three-day custody Wednesday in the Mekong Delta City of Can Tho for allegedly stealing the gun of a police officer the day before.
According to the Cai Rang District's police division, Huynh Thanh Thang, deputy head of judicial office in Chau Thanh District, the Mekong Delta province of Hau Giang, was stopped by local traffic officers on Friday for speeding on his motorbike.
After signing the record of his violation, Thang began protesting and cursing the officers before rushing at Second Lieutenant Phan Vinh Minh and grabbing his name tag and gun.
Meanwhile, Vo Van Thang, chairman of Chau Thanh District's People's Committee, told Thanh Nien that the district's Party unit has ordered its inspectorate to gather more information about the case.
Tuoi Tre newspaper quoted Chau Thanh District's police division as saying Thang was once caught riding without a helmet two years ago, but had refused the to follow local traffic officers' orders.
