A 26-year-old woman died on the spot and her ex-boyfriend was seriously injured in the northern Vietnamese province of Hai Duong Sunday when explosives she had rigged to her motorbike went off.
Tuoi Tre newspaper Monday quoted Senior Lieutenant-Colonel Pham Khac Diep of the provincial police department as saying that Vu Thi Thuy had set up the explosion to commit suicide on the day her ex Tran Van Chung, 29, married another woman.
That day Chung threw a wedding party at his house in Kinh Mon District.
At around 3 p.m., after the party ended, Thuy came to meet and speak with him.
Two hours later, when she was about to leave and Chung saw her off, the bike exploded, killing her on the spot and seriously injuring him.
Police said the explosives had been placed beneath the vehicle's seat, but did not reveal how they were triggered.
In December 2011 a motorbike explosion in another northern province, Bac Ninh, killed a pregnant woman and her four-year-old daughter.
It was later discovered that her brother-in-law, with whom she had had some conflict, had rigged the explosives to her motorbike.
The man was sentenced to death at a trial last year.
