A 51-year old man in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak, who allegedly killed his rival in love and severely injured the woman he loved last Saturday, turned himself in a day later, local police said.
Nguyen Van Tranh told them the woman’s plan to marry his rival was what drove him to attack them.
Tranh, a married man with five children, said he had regularly visited the house Tran Thi Lieu, 42, a widow living near his house, and helped her with her daily activities for the last three years.
But Ha Van Vinh, a widower and also aged 51, began to turn up daily at Lieu’s house since last month and managed to win her affection.
The two men had met at her house Saturday evening, and both refused to be the first to leave.
Lieu waited until 10 p.m and then asked Tranh to leave, but he agreed to leave only if Vinh did too.
She then threw Tranh’s shoes out of the door, making him furious.
He went into the kitchen, grabbed a knife and chased after her, slashing her in the arm.
Vinh tried to stop him and was stabbed twice in his stomach.
Tranh then again turned on Lieu, slashing her in the hip before fleeing.
Lieu and Vinh were rushed to a hospital by their neighbors, but the man succumbed to his injuries.
The woman is in stable condition, doctors said.
