An Italian man apparently hanged himself to death in his 14th floor Ho Chi Minh City apartment on Tuesday, police said.
Fabio Vignati, 39, who worked as a language teacher for schools in Thu Duc District, was found dead at the Dat Xanh apartment building on Cay Keo Street in Thu Duc District at around 10:30 p.m.
Newswire Dan Tri reported that Vignati’s girlfriend rushed to the building and informed security guards that she had just received a text message from her boyfriend saying he would commit suicide.
The woman and the guards ran upstairs to Vignati’s apartment but it was locked from the inside.
The guards broke down the door and found the Italian man dead.
A security guard at the scene told Thanh Nien that Vignati had frequently quarreled with a foreign woman prior to the incident.
The man’s body was then brought to a hospital for a post-mortem examination. The Italian Consulate in HCMC was also informed of the death.
Thu Duc District police said their investigation remains underway.
