Italian cities gear up for Hanoi's millennium

Authorities of Italy's province of Florence and its cities of Trento, Milan and Genoa say they will hold cultural activities to celebrate the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi to be held in October.

Florence will hold a photo exhibition in Hanoi in May on the province's former mayor Giorgio La Pira, who represented the UN General Assembly to Hanoi for a peace talks with President Ho Chi Minh in November 1965.

The province also invited a water puppet troupe from Vietnam to perform in Florence in October, its head Andrea Balducci told Vietnamese ambassador to Italy Dang Khanh Thoai at a recent meeting.

Many other activities to promote cultural and trade ties between Florence and Hanoi, as well as Vietnam in general, will also take place in the coming time.

Trento City plans to send its popular child chorus to Hanoi on this occasion.

Milan decided to send its orchestra of La Scala Theater to Vietnam while Genoa set up a committee to support the anniversary of Thang Long Hanoi.
