Police in Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday arrested a local man who allegedly killed a police officer on a street in the early morning of June 29.
Nguyen Minh Tuan, 40, said he was under the influence of methamphetamine at around 1 a.m. When he saw police officer Pham Van Manh arguing with another man, he was "extremely offended" and rushed in to stabbed Manh in the abdomen before running away, Lao Dong newspaper reported.
Tuan told the police said he had not known either of the men before the killing.
The body of Manh, an officer from Binh Phuoc Province, was found by locals by the sidewalk of Nguyen Chi Thanh Street in District 10.
The crime scene was close to a hospital where the officer had been guarding a prisoner under treatment.
Manh, 35, reportedly left the hospital around midnight after his shift. He was discovered unconscious ten minutes later.
He was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to serious injuries.
