The director of a leading insurance firm Bao Viet was caught gambling Saturday, police confirmed Monday.
Pham Tich Thien, director of the Bao Viet Insurance Company branch in Thanh Hoa Province, was caught red-handed while playing a card game with three other officials on the company premises.
The police also seized around VND20 million ($1,030) in cash and other valuables used to place bets.
The surprise raid was carried out based on information passed on by local residents.
Tran Van Thuc, a spokesman for Thanh Hoa police, said his unit was investigating the case further.
The police have not released the names of the three officials caught in the raid.
Gambling for money is illegal in Vietnam.
