Hundreds of people crowded the pediatric ward of a hospital in the central city of Hue on Wednesday evening, demanding that doctors explain the death of a baby girl.
Nguyen Ngoc Hoang Chau was admitted to the city’s general hospital on July 18 with symptoms of pneumonia.
According to Chau’s relatives, the 8-month old girl received two injections every day during the course of her treatment.
But Chau’s father said things changed on Tuesday.
“On the afternoon of July 29, the doctors switched the medicine they were injecting her with, but we don’t know what they began using instead. On Wednesday morning, after receiving two injections, she turned blue and stopped breathing,” Chau’s father told a VnExpress reporter. “The doctors began administering first-aid. But my daughter passed away that afternoon.”
The bereaved father, escorted by dozens of his relatives, returned to the hospital the following day to demand that doctors explain his daughter's death. A crowd occupied the pediatric ward from 4pm to 6pm, when a doctor told Chau's father that his little girl died after the medicine sent her into shock.
No further details were provided, but a representative of the hospital visited her family on Thursday morning and promised to issue a thorough autopsy report.
