A large tree killed one Indonesian tourist and injured six others when it fell on a slide waiting area at Datanla Falls in Da Lat resort town on Saturday, September 24.

Doctors of Lam Dong General Hospital said Ignatius Adri Aristiono, 28, died before being admitted to the hospital due to brain injuries.

Six others tourists were injured either in their head, belly, hands or feet. The three tourists from Australia who sustained injuries were Leone Patterson, 57, Mathen Gordon, 40 and 18-year-old Alexandra Gordon. The Indonesian tourists injured were Yonas, 29, Rizky Rinaldi, 31 and 30-year-old Curj Polakitang.

The accident happened at around 3:30 p.m. when a chestnut tree suddenly fell on a waiting station for a slide at the Datanla Falls in Da Lat Town's Ward 3. The tree was 20 meters tall with a diameter of about one meter.

The fall's management staff and rescuers rushed the victims to the hospital.

Nguyen Xuan Tien, chairman of Lam Dong Province People's Committee, visited the victims on the same day and instructed the hospital to do their best in treating the injured.

Incessant rain over the past days may have led to the tree falling.

The sliding coaster system, which opened to tourist since May 2006 by Lam Dong Tourism Company, was suspended following the accident.
