Inauguration of first nutrition bachelor course in Vietnam at Hanoi medical university

On October 2nd 2013, Hanoi Medical University officially organized the opening ceremony of the 1st Nutrition Bachelor Course in Vietnam for 46 students. They are the first students to be trained nutrition at the bachelor level in Vietnam.

During previous years, the nutrition profession in Vietnam has achieved positive results in improving the community nutrition. However, the network of nutritionists and dieticians is still quite weak in terms of both quantity and quality. Challenges of current situation require high-quality manpower in field of nutrition that can support treatment, give health consultation and make a contribution to improve the physical and mental strength of Vietnamese people

So far there has not been training nutrition at the bachelor level officially. Therefore, the cooperation among Hanoi Medical University, National Institute of Nutrition and Ajinomoto Group in establishing the Nutrition Bachelor Course can be seen as an important step in Vietnam nutrition field, contributing to the improvement of community's health via reasonable nutrition.

According to Ass.Prof. Dr. Pham Duy Tuong - Director of Institute for Preventive Medicine and Public Health, Hanoi Medical University, although it is the very first year of the Nutrition Bachelor Course, it could enroll many good students. This shows the attraction of the course in the situation that nutrition is attracting more care in Vietnam.

The course's objective is equipping students with fundamental knowledge, specific knowledge and basic practicing skills in nutrition, food safety and clinical nutrition; so that they can independently carry out preventive nutrition activities and give nutrition care for patients and the community. After graduation, these students can work in hospitals' nutrition departments, schools, institutes, preventive medicine centers and other medical organizations in nutrition and food safety"¦; making a contribution to improve the nutrition status for Vietnamese people in general.

In the long-term cooperation among Hanoi Medical University, National Institute of Nutrition and Ajinomoto Group, Ajinomoto Group will support in both finance and foreign experts to establish the curriculum according to advanced curricula in Japan, Australia"¦Besides, Ajinomoto Group supported to build the Nutrition and Dietetics Laboratory at Hanoi Medical University. On this occasion, Ajinomoto Vietnam Company also grants 10 scholarships with total value of VND 45 million to students with highest entrance scores.
