Illegal weapon supplier busted in southern Vietnam

Police in Binh Duong Province have arrested a man who supplied guns, swords and other weapons to criminals throughout the southern region.

Do Thanh Phuong, 28, was arrested May 22 at his rented house in the province neighboring Ho Chi Minh City, police told the media Saturday.

Investigators seized 13 tear gas bombs, a gun that uses hand-made bullets, an electric gun, 22 swords and falchions, five tear gas canisters and three electric whips.

Phuong said he bought the weapons on the black market at the Chinese border in Lao Cai Province.

He has been selling the bombs and whips for around VND4 million (US$192) a piece while selling the guns for VND8-12 million.

The swords and falchions were priced between VND800,000 and VND4 million.
