Authorities in central Vietnam on Friday seized illegal timber chopped from a local mangrove forest.
Some locals in Quang Ngai Province even put stones and stretched strings across the road to prevent authorities from transporting more than 20 cubic meters of the timber from the forest.
Early last month, more than 14.5 cubic meters of timber illegally logged from the same forest was found.
In related news, Binh Phuoc government in southern Vietnam has taken back more than 478 hectares of forest land from five local companies.
The companies were granted the land but they had either sold the land, transferred the land illegally or left it wasted, Tuoi Tre reported Sunday.
