A hydrofoil caught fire in the southern coastal resort of Vung Tau when it was being refueled but no casualty has been reported so far.
The fire is believed to have broken out in the hold of Greenlines 2, belonging to the Dong Song Xanh Joint-stock Company.
The accident happened when more than 400 liters of oil had been filled. The boat was about to leave Vung Tau for Ho Chi Minh City.
Captain Le Ba Minh told Thanh Nien it is likely that as the fuel was being pumped, a staff member let oil splash onto hot engines, leading to the fire.
Phan Huu Quang, a mechanic with Greenlines 2, said there was no staff of the Thai Binh Duong Fuel Company's Gasoline Station 15 on hand to supervise the process as regulated.
He said two staffers from the station only put the pump into the tank. When he asked them to wait, they just continued the work, he added.
"A couple of minutes later the fire started," Quang said.
Do Van Thang, chief of the gas station, also admitted that there was no staff member around when oil was being pumped into the tank.
The cause is being investigated further.
