Vo Hong Khanh, ambulance driver for the Cau Ngang District General Hospital, was driving under alcoholic influence, the paper reported. It cited provincial traffc police as saying blood tests showed alcohol content of 0.76 milligrams per liter.
According to police, at around 9 p.m. Thursday, Khanh, 32, was driving the ambulance from Tra Vinh Town to Cau Ngang when he trespassed on the other side of the street and collided into the bike driven by Trieu Minh Tuan.
Tuan, 53, died on the spot, while his wife, 50-year-old Phan Thi Be Nho was critically injured.
Nho was rushed to a local hospital by another ambulance, but as the vehicle's door wasn't locked, the woman and the stretcher fell on to the street on the way, Tuoi Tre reported.
