Hundreds of locals attacked a gold mining factory in Quang Nam Province's Phu Ninh District, injuring guards and stealing tons of gold ore in the early hours on Saturday.

Vo Hoang Anh, chief security of the factory for the Bong Mieu Gold Mining Company, said they had warned 40 people against entering the mine on Friday night.

However, a few hours later at 1:30 a.m. Saturday, more than 300 people entered the site and attacked the factory.

They threw objects at the five-member security staff and injured two. Vo Van Hung hurt his left leg and Nguyen Thanh Tinh sustained injuries to his head.

The thieves stole more than 10 tons of gold ore before leaving, VnExpress reported Sunday.

This was the second time Bong Mieu factory was attacked.

Last August, a local man, Duong Van Yen, attempted to enter the mine and fought with the guards.

The incident attracted hundreds of locals to the site and more than five tons of gold ore and a kilogram of gold were stolen.

Police investigations are ongoing.
