A life sentence was handed down to a former teacher for killing her daughter's housemaid at a hearing in Hanoi on Tuesday, but the motive for the crime was never determined, VnExpress reported that day.
According to the indictment, Tran Thi Nga, 60, killed Le Thi Thuy, 47, during an argument at the house of Nga's daughter on November 15 last year.
Thuy attacked Nga with a chisel, but the latter soon deprived her of the tool and stabbed at her neck, prosecutors said.
Nga then smashed Thuy's head with an iron while holding her down by the neck, according to the prosecution.
After that Nga cleared the site and cooked before leaving for her second daughter's house, VnExpress reported, adding that the case was not detected until the former teacher's elder daughter came home and found Thuy's body in her bedroom.
According to the news website, Nga claimed that Thuy attacked her because she caught her attempting to steal money from her daughter's safer.
However, the board of judges at the hearing held by Hanoi's People's Court rejected the claim, saying that it was unreasonable to believe that Thuy attempted a robbery while Nga was at home.
