A man and his nephew were killed and five others severely burned in a house fire in Ho Chi Minh City early Saturday.
The fire in Cu Chi District was discovered by a company guard nearby at around 3:30 a.m.
Neighbors broke in and could save only five people. Nguyen Thanh Thang, 22, and Nguyen Hoang Vinh, 9, stuck on the second floor, were burned to death.
Their bodies could only be dragged out of the house after the fire was put out an hour later.
The survivors include the 33-year-old house owner Le Thi Lien, her two daughters 2 and 5 years old, her mother, 58, and her brother. Vinh was Lien's eldest son and Thang was another brother of hers.
A Tuoi Tre newspaper report said Lien and her husband, who is working abroad, bought the house in late 2010. She had opened an eatery there six days before the fire.
Police found an intact gas cylinder, while two motorbikes were burned down.
The fire is being investigated further.
