Two brothers have died from asphyxiation and severe burns sustained in a house fire early Saturday in southern Vietnam, after their parents had locked the boys inside before leaving.
Tran Kim Tin, 11, and Tran Minh Khang, 6, from Bac Lieu Province were found in the family's water tub when neighbors broke into their house to rescue them around 5 a.m.
Tin died while being sent to hospital while Khang, who suffered burns and oxygen deprivation, succumbed to his injuries and died on Saturday afternoon.
The Vietnam News Agency cited the police as saying the house was locked from outside and the boys jumped into the tub of water to avoid the fire, which took firefighters more than one hour to extinguish.
Further investigation was launched to find out the cause of the accident, but police suspect electricity was related.
The boys' mother was a vendor at a local market and leaves the house early every day. The house, which the family has rented for two years, was almost burned down.
Local authorities have given the family VND6.2 million (US$300) as a condolence.
