Authorities in the northern province of Bac Ninh have demoted the director of a local hospital for cursing at and threatening reporters, allegedly while under the influence of alcohol, Tien Phong (Pioneer) newspaper reported.
Pham Van Phan was demoted to deputy director of Luong Tai District General Hospital.
According to the provincial People’s Committee, Phan violated the hospital's code of conduct and his wrongful acts went viral on the internet, tarnishing the image of the nation's health sector.
The incident occurred on October 14 when 300 workers from the DHA Apparel Company based in Bac Ninh’s Luong Tai District were hospitalized for food poisoning.
When reporters from local newspapers and news websites arrived at the Luong Tai District General Hospital, Phan went into a furious tirade.
Phan threatened to beat the reporters and prevented them from doing their jobs.
His actions were witnessed by many patients and their families.
Reporters say he reeked of alcohol.
After a video clip of Phan's tirade was released online, the provincial Department of Health temporarily suspended Phan at the request of Health Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien.
