A crew member on a Hong Kong-flagged ship died after falling into its cargo hold amid rough seas when the vessel was near Vietnam’s coast on Monday, authorities said.
The accident occurred at around 2 a.m. on Monday when the Hony Future was some 150 nautical miles from Vung Tau Town in southern Vietnam. The ship was on its way from Iran to China.
The captain said rough seas and strong winds caused two crewmen, Ding Guandong and Yu Jiannan, to fall into the cargo hold.
Yu Jiannan died soon later while Ding Guandong suffered serious injuries. The latter was rushed to Vung Tau for emergency care.
