Ho Chi Minh City man self-immolates in front of police station

Police in Ho Chi Minh City are investigating an act of suicidal self-immolation that occurred in front of a district police station in the early morning of Wednesday.
Police found the charred body of Nguyen Hai Trieu at around 1:15 am in front of the District 5 police station at 359 Tran Hung Dao Street.
Officers recovered a 1.5-liter bottle of gasoline, a motorbike, an iPhone, a Zippo lighter and the dead man’s papers at the scene.
Trieu, 34, reportedly drove his motorbike to the station, doused himself in gasoline and then set himself on fire.
Trieu reportedly lived not far from the scene of his suicide.
Police say they sent his body to the morgue in Trieu An Hospital.
Nguyen Kim Tieng, head of the District 5 prosecutors' office, refused to comment as a police investigation remains underway.
