Police said on Sunday they have cracked down more heavily on drug-related crimes in Ho Chi Minh City since December, arresting 474 illegal drug traders and users in 236 cases.
A total of 5.9 kilograms of heroin and 32.4 kilos of methamphetamine were seized in these busts, they said.
They also confiscated 141 motorbikes, 270 mobile phones and VND465 million (US$23,250) in cash.
Police said that 322 out of the 474 arrested were caught red-handed trading or trafficking drugs, while the rest were using drugs.
Since no comparison data is available, it is uncertain whether or not drug crime is on the rise.
There are 19,000 drug addicts in the city of 7.95 million, according to statistics in local media.
