The Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations Tuesday honored foreign NGOs that made significant contributions last year.
The union's vice chairman, Phung Cong Dung, said: "The economic recession and high inflation rates last year more or less affected the economic growth of the whole country, particularly Ho Chi Minh City.
"However, the city's efforts together with contributions from foreign NGOs enabled city authorities and people to overcome difficulties and achieve socio-economic goals."
According to Dung, 151 foreign NGOs operate in the city.
At the annual review meeting Tuesday, the city people's committee gave away certificates of merit to 11 organizations and individuals while HUFO presented the certificates to 33 organizations and individuals.
