Sections of some downtown streets in Ho Chi Minh City will be closed to traffic from Wednesday (April 22) to make way for celebrations of the upcoming national holidays.
The sections on Nguyen Binh Khiem, Nguyen Huu Canh, Le Thanh Ton, Pham Hong Thai, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai -- the red strip on the map -- will be blocked, creating a rectangular no-vehicle zone.
Vehicles will not be allowed to enter the zone from 7 a.m.-11 a.m. on April 22; from 6 p.m.-12. a.m. on April 24; from 4 a.m.-11 a.m. on April 26; and from 4 a.m.-12 a.m. on April 30.
The transport department called on city dwellers and companies to prepare for alternative plans.
The city earlier closed sections of Le Duan and Pasteur in front of the Independence Palace for more than a month starting March 30 as it prepares for celebrations of the 40th anniversary of the nation's reunification.
Closings between March 30 and May 6 include a section of Pasteur St. between Han Thuyen and Alexandre de Rhodes, and a section of Le Duan Street between Pham Ngoc Thach and Nam Ky Khoi Nghia.
Vehicles are not allowed to stop or park on Han Thuyen and Alenxandre de Rhodes.
