The Ho Chi Minh City police said Tuesday they have arrested five people aged between 11 and 15 for allegedly assaulting a German tourist and robbing him early last week.
The five were caught Monday night soon after they robbed two women at knifepoint under the Calmette Bridge in District 1.
The police are hunting for several other members of the gang who managed to flee.
The five confessed to assaulting the German.
Sebastian Gertz and his Kazakh girlfriend Yekaterina Ponomarenko were visiting the Tau Hu channel in District 1 at around 3 a.m. on October 19 when a group of boys suddenly attacked them.
Gertz was stabbed several times in his arms, and the gang fled after taking a mobile phone and some cash from him.
