The Ho Chi Minh City police Tuesday arrested two men for allegedly running an illegal gold trading firm that carried out transactions worth trillions of dong in the last five years.
Nguyen Van Ky Chung, 37, the general director of the Thien Viet Financial Investment Joint Stock Company, and his brother Nguyen Van Ky Thanh, 33, a director of the company, were arrested at an office belonging to the company in District 1.
The police also made searches of their offices in HCMC, Hanoi, and Da Nang, seizing three luxury cars, computers, documents and a large amount of cash.
Preliminary investigations show that the company, which was licensed as a stock and real estate trading company, was illegally running a gold trading floor since 2010 and had thousands of clients.
All their transactions and accounts were based on the electronic trading platform MetaTrader 4, the police said.
Many employees at Thien Viet have been summoned for questioning.
