Police in Ho Chi Minh City's Thu Duc District on Wednesday halted the operation of a filling station following accusations that the station sold gasoline mixed with water.
Linh Dong Ward police summoned Tran Xuan Minh, the owner of the filling station, for questioning.
Previously, police received complaints from locals saying their motorbikes broke down after they bought gasoline at the 27.7 Filling Station on Kha Van Can Street.
The locals said they checked the gasoline and found it was mixed with water.
After being summoned for questioning, Minh told the police high tide combined with a road repair project had affected the drainage system and flooded his filling station.
"That's why the water absorbed into the gasoline," he said.
Minh pledged to refund affected customers and compensate the cost of repairs for their motorbikes. He also promised to pump the water-mixed gasoline out of the tank.
