The Hanoi police are set to file criminal charges against a female worker at a railway station for stealing money from a Chinese man on Lunar New Year’s Day.
Tran Thi Hong Ha, 40, of Thuong Tin railway station will be charged with stealing VND115 million (US$5,153) from Zha Yusheng, 34, who sells pottery at the station.
The alleged theft occurred at around 8:30 a.m. on February 8 when Ha, who works in the canteen, brought noodles for Yusheng. There she saw two plastic bags with money the Chinese man had hung on a wall, and took some of it hoping to avoid detection, the police said.
Investigators said Ha had stolen VND115 million out of VND487 million (US$21,800) that had been in the bags.
Yusheng complained about the theft to the police, who identified Ha as the prime suspect.
