Hanoi will spend VND3.3 trillion (US$169.31 million) renovating the city between 2011 and 2015, according to a draft project announced by the city's Department of Construction Friday.
The project will include taking telecommunication and electricity wires underground, renovating street infrastructure, and upgrading squares, parks and gardens, said Nguyen The Hung, deputy director of the department.
Investment in lighting systems at urban towns is also included, he said.
In 2010, Hanoi launched 69 projects aiming to spruce up the city, including 29 targeting infrastructure upgrade.
However, the complicated nature of the job as well and the sub-par performance of some contractors made it difficult to guarantee the quality of several projects, the department said.
