Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved in principal a three-year pilot project to use electric buses for tourism purposes in Hanoi.

However, it is uncertain when the project, invested by local Dong Xuan Joint-stock Company, will be launched.

According to the approced plan, the buses will be used for sightseeing tours around the Old Quarter and Hoan Kiem Lake.

It is estimated that 20 buses with the capacity to carry 5-12 passengers each will run between 15 stations in the two areas, local newspaper Nguoi Lao Dong reported.

Tickets are expected to cost VND10,000-30,000 (US$0.53-1.59) each for one-way trips, it said.
