A Hanoi police officer said Monday his department has not managed to track down a motorcyclist who was photographed riding with one foot and texting since the vehicle had been reported stolen by the owner in 2010.

The photo has gone viral since last week.

Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Van Dao of the Hanoi traffic police said the license plate helped them track down the motorbike owner, a woman who lives in the capital's Thanh Xuan District. She told them she had lost the motorbike after her house was broken into.

"We have informed police stations in Hanoi about the situation [and told them] to look for the motorbike," Dao said.

The police said the photo of the motorbike was taken by another rider at 3:30 p.m. on August 14 on Thang Long Highway.

It shows the man not wearing a crash helmet, which is obligatory in Vietnam, and riding at 60 kilometers speed, according to the photographer.
