Residents on a street in downtown Hanoi were frightened Monday morning as a car exploded, shattering windows in nearby houses.
No casualties have been reported.
Residents said they heard a loud sound and window glasses raining down at around 4:20 am and that they saw smoke coming from the Honda car, which was parked on Hong Phuc Street.
Nguyen Thi Loan, who lives next door to the car owner, said the explosion rocked her house and shattered windows.
“The explosion frightened all the residents and sent them to the street,” Loan said.
Neighbors said the car owner moved here more than a year ago. He usually parks the car in front of his house.
News website VnExpress quoted unnamed sources as saying someone had tried to set the car on fire a few times but failed, without elaborating.
Police has brought the car away as they are investigating into the incident.
