Hanoi will spend more than US$450 million until 2015 to clean up a local river.

The VND8.7 trillion ($457.29 million) project will dredge and tidy up the Nhue River, upgrade drains and build pumping stations.

Part of the money - VND360 billion will be used to build the Cau Nga wastewater treatment plant to reduce river pollution. The plant, located in Tu Liem District, is expected to receive and treat 15,000-20,000 cubic meters of sewage a day.

Funds for the project will be drawn from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, government bonds, and the city budget.

The project aims to improve the irrigation impacts of the river and reduce flooding during the rainy season.
