In an attempt to fix Hanoi’s serious traffic problems, authorities Sunday started to clear many road fences that have remained though the work they were meant to protect finished long ago.
On orders from the city authorities, managers of Hanoi’s elevated railway project have removed all 50 meters of fencing that had been erected for road works from Ho Tung Mau Street in Cau Giay District.
The elevated railway construction has worsened Hanoi’s traffic problems by falling behind schedule by several years and blocking traffic on more than 20 kilometers of downtown streets.
Hanoi traffic inspectors have fined contractors of the project VND79 million (US$3,540) for the sluggish work and encroaching on roads.

Next they will move this fence on Xuan Thuy Street, also in Cau Giay, one meter into the sidewalk.
