Hanoi police on Thursday seized thousands of allegedly smuggled cigars and cigarettes from a privately owned warehouse, Tuoi Tre reported.
In the morning, a team of anti-smuggling police arrested a man transporting 400 packs of Sobranie cigarettes without documents of origin.
Tran Quoc Dung, 22, then told the police he was carrying the cigarettes to a warehouse in Hoan Kiem District.
The police then searched the warehouse, owned by Hoang Manh Cuong, 35, and seized 2,535 cigarette packs and 25,755 cigars.
Cuong confessed he bought smuggled tobacco in the black market and then resold them.
The police said the contraband was worth billions of dong. They are still investigating the case.
