Police in Hanoi seized two guns from people traveling in two different taxis Wednesday, one from a wanted criminal and the other from a group on the way to rescue their friend from another gang.

The taxi with the criminal, Do Hong Thiet, 44, was stopped after some traffic police officers saw Thiet doing "abnormal" things at seeing them, Voice of Vietnam radio reported.

He tried to escape by melting into the crowds, but failed.

He said he had bought the gun in China for VND10 million (US$480). It was loaded with six bullets.

There is a warrant out for him though the police did not say for what crime.

In the other incident, officers seized a gun from four people, one of them a 19-year-old.

Tran Giang Nam, 25, admitted to be the owner of the gun, which he bought in Lang Son Province on the China border for VND2 million ($96).

They were going to rescue a friend who was being assaulted by a gang.

Possessing guns is illegal in Vietnam, except for certain officials.
