Police in Hanoi on March 13 arrested two men suspected of stealing an iPhone and an iPad from a local house two weeks earlier.
Hoang Ngoc Diep and Tran Son Tung, both 25, have been placed in custody for investigations concerning the robbery on the night of March 1.
The two said they had been searching for houses with loose security and spotted the house of Ngo Quang Tuan, which had been left opened with only a little boy occupying the ground floor.
Tung stepped in, picking up an iPhone 5, the latest version of Apple smartphone, from a table, and snatched the iPad the 10-year-old boy was holding. Tung then ran out and jumped on a motorbike with Diep, who was waiting outside.
The crime was recorded by security cameras installed in the house.
Police said the two detainees are ex-convicts and heroin addicts who have successfully committed at least 10 robberies involving Apple gadgets and other valuable items in the city's downtown area.
They are looking for two other men in a similar case in which an iPad was swiped from the hands of a 2-year-old boy at a house in Hai Ba Trung District.
Apple gadgets have become easy targets for theft in Ho Chi Minh City as well, where a customer at a café in Binh Thanh District had an iPad 4, Apple's latest tablet, taken out of his hands by a man pretending to be a customer on February 26.
The city police in early January arrested two in a gang of three who severed a local man's arm with a machete in December in order to steal his iPhone, which turned out to be a fake.
