Hanoi police said Monday they had arrested a man for killing his son with a hammer after the son beat up his sister-in-law and yelled at his father, reported online newspaper Dan Tri.
At around 8 a.m. on Sunday, Tran Van Cuong, 53, of Hoan Kiem District repeatedly hit Tran Van Nhan, his 24-year-old son, in the head and face with a hammer while Nhan was sleeping.
After other family members discovered the act, they rushed Nhan to hospital but he succumbed to his injuries that afternoon.
Cuong was arrested shortly afterwards.
He told police he was outraged as Nhan acted overly rude on Saturday evening.
He said Nhan picked up a fight with Le Thi Tuyet Nhung, his sister-in-law, and beat her up. When Cuong tried to stop him, he yelled at Cuong with insulting words, according to the father.
Cuong decided to kill his son the following morning.
According to Cuong's neighbors, Nhan was a troubled child who had spent time in a rehabilitation center for troubled teens.
After spending two years there, Nhan did not change his behavior, they said.
He once tried to slash Cuong with a knife and chased him out of the house, according to neighbors.
Police are investigating the case.
