The Hanoi police have arrested three young IT engineers who allegedly hacked into tens of thousands of credit cards and sold the information for more than VND400 million (US$18,380).
Le Van Nguyen, Nguyen Trong Hong, and Dang Quang Thanh Thanh, all 25, graduated from a university in information technology and have great expertise in programming and cyber security, the media has reported.
Police summoned Nguyen last Sunday after receiving a tip-off, and he confessed the trio had earned money by stealing and selling credit card information.
He said he learned about how credit card information is traded online in May last year.
Then he managed to hack into websites with security loopholes and stole information about credit cards.
They had used some of the information to buy stuff online and sold the others.
The gang came to notice when they hacked into the server of an Internet shop in Hanoi last month to steal passwords for customers.
