Police in Hanoi Wednesday said they have arrested the owner of a petrol station on suspicion of cheating his customers by selling less fuel than they paid for.
Hoang Xuan Loc, 54, ran the station in Tu Liem District which Tuesday was found setting up an electric chip system in its pumping and measuring systems to earn benefit from the discrepancy, according to investigators from Hanoi police and the Department of Sciences and Technologies.
It was estimated that Loc earned about VND1,200 (US$0.06) extra on every liter of fuel he sold, investigators said, noting that it was the largest illegal markup detected so far in Hanoi.
Loc was said to have confessed to the poice that he set up the chip in May and pocketed an extra VND15 million ($785.75) every month.
The fraud is being investigated further.
