Police in Hanoi seized thousands of cans of Chinese corn plastered with counterfeit Del Monte labels.
Officers from Hanoi's Economic Management Division inspected the contents of a truck bound for Ninh Binh Province and found corn cans that appeared to be produced by the US agricultural giant, as well as undocumented sacks of sugar, Tuoi Tre newspaper reported.
Colonel Thanh Kien Trung said his unit contacted Del Monte's attorney in Vietnam and learned that the California-based company hadn't produced the products.
Driver Dong Van Khien later told police that Nguyen Duyen Toan, 44 asked hired him to deliver the cans.
Police then raided Toan’s storage facility on Lang Ha Street and found more than 1,400 fake Del Monte corn cans along with a series of blank cans and unused counterfeit labels.
They also seized nearly 700 squeeze bottles of Chinese mustard attached to Japanese labels.
