Police in Hanoi on Sunday suspended an officer who was accused of attacking a local man during an argument.
Bui Xuan Thanh, a police officer in Chuong My District, reportedly slapped Cao Van Khanh twice in the face on Saturday afternoon.
Witnesses said they saw Thanh, in plain clothes, stop his car in front of Khanh's house.
The men were supposed to help reconcile their younger brothers after a fight. However, Thanh and Khanh started picking up an argument of their own.
Khanh’s relatives saw him being attacked and chased the police officer with rakes and canes.
Thanh jumped into his car and locked the doors.
Local police rescued him later.
Tran Tri Dung, head of Chuong My police station, said that they are considering strict measures against Thanh for his inappropriate acts.
