The Hanoi police have arrested a 51-year-old bus driver for allegedly trying to extort VND300 million (US$13,400) from some traffic police officers after secretly filming them at work.
Chu Huu Thang of Dong Da District was arrested Wednesday for questioning about his alleged blackmail.
He had been fined several times for infringements by traffic police station No. 3.
Last December he bought a spy camera and secretly filmed officers on duty at the O Cho Dua roundabout.
Subsequently he sent text messages to some of them and demanded VND300 million.
Thang was arrested at the bank when he went to withdraw the money they had transferred to his account.
The police clarified that the officers in the videos were not committing any wrongdoing.
