Hanoi authorities on Monday inspected an almost completed building that has been criticized recently for being taller than the President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum nearby.
The commercial and office building complex is located at 8B Le Truc Street near Ba Dinh Square.
The 17-story building, named Discovery Complex II, is 69 meters in height, while the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum is only 21.6 meters high.
The building is around 500 meters away from the mausoleum.
The project attracted public attention after local media reported about its towering height.
According to authorities, projects near the historic square should not be taller than and overshadow the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum.
On September 25, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung ordered the government of Hanoi to inspect the building to see if it met requirements related to architecture and construction planning.
Hanoi inspectors said Monday they are working with Kinh Do TCI, the developer of the project, and will submit a report to the prime minister soon.
Construction of the building started in March last year and is expected to finish next month. It was licensed by the Hanoi Construction Department and no construction violations have been reported so far.
