A demand by a commune police department in Hai Phong city for monetary contributions by companies for Tet fund has come under fire from authorities, who said they would rebuke the local police chief.
Many companies in An Dong Commune complained to the An Duong District police after receiving a notice Wednesday signed by local police chief Nguyen Huu Tao, which said they must each pay VND1 million (nearly US$50) for security during the Lunar New Year.
An Dong authorities Saturday told Tuoi Tre newspaper that they had not cleared it, and promised to haul Tao for a reprimand.
“They had yet to take any money from the companies,” a senior police officer in An Duong District said, adding that Tao retires later this month.
