Hanoi police arrested three people suspected of producing crystal methamphetamine on Sunday.
Investigators said the group was found making the drug, which goes by the street name "ice", at an apartment owned by Vu Dinh Hai, 39, at the Trung Hoa Nhan Chinh Apartment complex in Thanh Xuan District.
Hai was arrested along with two alleged accomplices, La Thanh Hien, 43, and Nguyen Thi Thuy Quynh, 20.
Thanh Xuan District police said neighbors had reported unpleasant odors emanating from Hai's apartment.
The residents also told police that Hien and Quynh were regular visitors to the apartment.
Twenty police officers raided the home and found the trio producing ice, according to police reports. They seized 59 grams of the drug and tools they used to produce the methamphetamine from Glotifed flu pills, investigators said.
The arrestees confessed to the crime, saying they produced the narcotics for self-consumption and for sale, according to police.
Investigators are now trying to ascertain if other people were involved.
The import and export of methamphetamines via non-commercial means is prohibited under Vietnamese law, under which the possession, transport, or trade of more than 600 grams of heroin or cocaine, or more than 2.5 kilograms of methamphetamine, can be punished with death.
