An official of the Vietnam Puppetry Theater found a training grenade and an anonymous threatening letter in a bag left in front of his house in Hanoi last Sunday, Lunar New Year's Day, and the police are investigating.

The police said Nguyen Tien Dung, 41, deputy director of the Hanoi-based theater, the country's biggest, found the bag with the grenade and handwritten letter at around 11 p.m.

Senior Lieutenant-Colonel Dao Van Hoan, deputy head of the Thanh Xuan District police, told Thanh Nien that the grenade is used by the military only for training and does not actually explode.

The police suspect some internal conflict at the theater to be behind the act.
