A 15-year-old boy was killed and two others injured when a grenade that one of them was carrying fell to the ground and exploded in a coffee shop in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong on Saturday.
Nguyen Van Hung, owner of the café, told Thanh Nien that the victims were celebrating the birthday of Ma Bla Che Moel, 21, when the grenade went off.
Pang Ting Quyn had his head seriously injured and succumbed on his way to the hospital.
Moel lost his right hand and injuries on his left hand, while Kra Jan Nhi, 20, had his right leg and eyes injured.
Hung said six other customers were also at the café at that time, but they sustained no injuries, except shock and tinnitus.
It was reported that Moel kept the grenade in his shirt pocket, which accidentally fell to the ground when he was eating.
Moel was a soldier who was discharged on January 28 this year, Tran Thanh Phuong, chief of Lac Duong Town Military Command, told Thanh Nien.
Related agencies are now identifying the grenade's origin and the explosion's cause.
