Goods, cash worth VND9 billion seized from home shopping firm in HCMC

Authorities in Ho Chi Minh City have confiscated goods and cash worth more than VND9 billion (US$429,000) from a home shopping company for selling undocumented goods.

According to a Tuesday statement by the HCMC Market Management Bureau, Huu Lac MTV Co., Ltd, which is operated by Chang Yao Wei, a Taiwanese man, was also fined VND25 million ($1,100).

Undocumented goods worth more than VND7 billion ($333,000) were seized from its premises in Tan Phu District as was VND2 billion ($95,000) in cash.

In April the company, which advertised its goods on television channels under the name of New Shopping, was found selling made-in-China goods like mobile phones and jewelry without having due documents.

A Tuoi Tre newspaper report Wednesday said local agencies launched the investigation after hundreds of customers gathered at the company's headquarters asking it to return their money, because the products they sold were unusable.

Last year, HCMC authorities fined the local Happy Shopping Company, another home shopping firm, for selling fake and smuggled goods.
