The German Embassy in Hanoi announced that it will provide US$210,000 for an 18-month anti-flood program in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue.

The project aims to provide residents in six districts and 36 rural communes and villages with more skills to cope with natural disasters, particularly storms and floods.

Under the program, anti-disaster taskforces will be established in the districts and communes of the flood-prone province.

They will be trained in first-aid and search and rescue tactics. The fund will also provide them with necessary equipment.

The project will target 15 schools in Thua Thien-Hue. Teachers and pupils will recieve emergency training and survival equipment.

The Red Cross Societies of Vietnam and Germany will cooperate on the project.
